July 2023 Chinook Salmon Retention
We’ve just received word from the DFO about Chinook salmon retention in Area 13. To date, we’ve been allowed to keep one Chinook per day in a portion of Area 15-5 around Toba Inlet, which is about an hour and twenty minutes drive by boat from Campbell River. As of July 15th, we’ll be able to keep fish closer to home.
July 15 – Aug 31
- One (1) Chinook salmon per person per day
- 62 cm minimum size
- 80 cm maximum size (marked or unmarked, i.e. hatchery or wild)
Sept 1 – Dec 31
- Two (2) Chinook salmon per person per day
- 62 cm minimum size
- no maximum size limit
We’re also able to keep two hatchery marked coho per day. Coho have been relatively abundant lately.
The daily limit for all species of Pacific salmon is four (4), but individual salmon species limits also apply. The possession limit is twice the daily limit.
Looking forward to another excellent salmon fishing season in Campbell River. Still a few available days, so get in touch if you want to go on a fishing charter. See you out there!
